The Prophet PBUH said: Because of me, respect the members of my family. The Barelvis should be proud of the fact that they have revered all the members of the family of the Prophet PBUH. We have made no distinction between four imams (sunni tradition) or twelve imams (shia tradition). We told the Prophet PBUH we are your loyalists and we will always accept your loyalists as our leader. Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi, our leader, said whoever is descended from the blood of the Prophet PBUH is made of light; and the Prophet’s entire family all the way down the line is divine for us.

All in the bloodline of the Prophet PBUH are Ahle Bayt and are revered. We like Madina because it is the soil of our Beloved Prophet. Allama Iqbal says the spoil of Madina is beloved because the Prophet lived there. How can it be that a Sunni Muslims who loves the soil of Madina should not love the family of the Prophet PBUH?

In the time of Hazrat Umar, Rome and Iran were conquered and the treasures from the two regions came to Madina. Umar distributed the money among the warriors of Badr and gave equal or more measure to Hasan and Husain, the grandsons of the Prophet PBUH. He gave his own son Abdullah less than he gave them. Since it was a time of justice, his son raised the question of equality. He said he was older and had more experience, also his family was meritorious. He said he was in the Battle of Badr when Hasan and Husain were too young to fight. Why have you given more share to Hasan and Husain?

Hazrat Umar replied if you want to compare yourself to the two brothers then you have to prove that you have a grandfather like theirs. On this Abdullah bin Umar became overcome with the emotion of regret and his face paled. Umar said beware my son don’t even think of being equal to the Hasan and Husain brothers. Today the world knows that Abdullah was a prince of men but Umar thought that the brothers Hasan and Husain were the princes among men.

Today we revere everything associated with the person of the Prophet PBUH. When we go to Madina we love the pulpit where he used to stand. People say it is bidaa (innovation) and shirk (association with Allah) but we don’t see that which is in front (Masjid Nabwi) but that which is behind the seen, that is, the Holy Prophet PBUH.

Where there is an association with the Prophet PBUH it is worth revering. That is where the true Muslim will bow and pay homage. If Prophet PBUH associates with the inferior person that inferior person becomes an exalted person for us. Think that his family is far more than associated with him; it is a part of his blood. His bloodline is pure and scared.

This is the reason why the umma from the time of the Caliphs till today has paid homage to the family of the Prophet PBUH. It has become a part of our faith.

We have seen above how Hazrat Umar treated Hasan and Husain, but the dispute of Garden of Fidak between Umar and Hazrat Fatima the daughter of the Prophet PBUH has been invented to sow discord. People have invented the story that Hazrat Fatima walked to the presence of Hazrat Umar. The fact is that she did not go to his court but he walked to her and presented himself. He said to her I swear by Allah that the progeny of the Prophet PBUH is precious to me more than my own children!
