The Prophet PBUH is shaded overhead by clouds but he is driving goats as a goatherd. The angels asked Allah, how is it that you chose Muhammad PBUH as the leader of all prophets and made himthe cupbearer of the Fount of Life in the Hereafter, and he is walking in front of a herd of goats. This is not a dignified occupation for him.

Allah said you have no knowledge of what is happening. Muhammad is getting his training to be the kamli-wallah (the wearer of modest dress). Today he is taking his goats around, in the fullness of time he will treat the kings of the world the same way.

Once the Prophet PBUH returned too soon from grazing the goats and his foster mother Halima wondered who had stopped him from grazing them or who had said something harsh to him. But foster brothers ran in and informed her that nothing untoward had happened; in fact, if in the past a full day’s grazing filled only a part of the belly of the goats, now under Muhammad PBUH’s care they could have their fill in no time, because wherever Muhammad PBUH went with his goats grass grew immediately and was ready for grazing.

The following day the sardars and chairmen of the local area came to Halima and said dry season is on us and our goats are sure to die of famine unless you allow us to go along with Muhammad PBUH because he has the power to make the grass grow. Our response to this favour would be that your husband will become the leader of our entire tribe.

Allah gave Muhammad PBUH leadership without election, chairmanship without election. Hazrat Halima began to think if doing this might not decrease Muhammad’s flock. But Allah told Halima not to worry because an increase in goats will not decrease the feed as long as He was the Giver of Boons and had handed over the distribution to Muhammad PBUH. Allah said: This one valley is nothing for me, even if the goats of the entire world came I would feed them through Muhammad PBUH in half an hour.

I want to explain that wherever the footstep of the Prophet PBUH falls there only blessings will descend. Hadith tells us that Companions asked the Prophet PBUH how they will say praises (darood) after the death of the Prophet PBUH? The Prophet replied that Allah had exempted the bodies of all prophets from decay after burial. This means that their bodies and senses are all in function. So the salam (darood) to the Prophet PBUH, when said at the door of his mausoleum, will be received by him, but darood sent from afar will be received by the angels who will transmit it to him.

The Quran says that the Shaheed will not die. If the Shaheed do not die how can the prophets die? Hadith tells us that Allah distributes food and that the prophets are alive in their graves. The Prophet PBUH saw during miraj (ascension) that Moses was saying namaz in his grave!

Wherever the Prophet went there the barren land became fertile. When a goat neared its death one touch of his hand revived it. And it arose and began to give milk. By the age of four the Prophet was given higher consciousness and people came to see him from as far as Syria in the north and Yemen in the south.

Hazrat Halima took the Prophet PBUH for cure or something else to a Jewish doctor but the moment the doctor saw the face of the Prophet PBUH and then looked into his Torah he knew immediately that this was the Prophet PBUH who will put an end to the Jews with his new prophethood. This was the Prophet who would teach the Quran and defeat the creed of the Jews and become the Conqueror.

The Jewish doctor thought of putting an end to the Prophet PBUH. He lifted him high and then let him fall thinking that after hitting the ground he will either die or become disabled. The ulema write that as he let go, Gabriel flew in and caught him while he was still in the air. But Allah has provided the Prophet PBUH with protective light.

Now don’t leave without prayer. If you do, it will like someone taking the lassi (whey) but throwing the butter away.
